What Is Reflexology?

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology has its roots in ancient healing methods from countries such as China, Japan, India, and Egypt.  There are energy zones than run throughout the body from head to toes and fingertips, and reflex areas on the feet and hands that correspond to every major body system, organ and gland in the human body.

Each foot has over 7000 nerve endings, so by working on both feet the reflexologist stimulates over 14,000 nerve endings, which in turn helps to open the flow of energy to all parts of the body through nerve pathways.  There are similar nerve pathways on the hands, as well as reflex areas on the face and ears. During a Reflexology session the recipient is in a seated, reclining or lying down position (with shoes/socks removed for foot-work) while the practitioner, often using lotion, applies various types of pressure techniques and relaxing movements to the feet or hands or face/ears.
